Passion, creativity, and a focus on luxury that is based on substance rather than excess have always been the driving forces behind this distinguished and influential luxury lifestyle magazine. Over the past decade, Durrah has documented many proud moments in the Kingdom’s history. It continues to provide its audience with a wealth of engaging articles, unique features, high profile interviews, and updates on the latest launches from the most exclusive luxury brands. As we look towards the future, our goal is to remain true to our roots and to continue setting a benchmark for quality and journalistic integrity.
Ten years ago, Maysoon Sabkar approached publisher Khalid Juman with an idea that would change the face of luxury lifestyle magazines in Bahrain. The objective was to create an exclusive publication for discerning readers, one that was content-driven and appealed to an elite clientele. With the objectives decided, they brainstormed ideas for a name before agreeing on Durrah, which means pearl in Arabic and aptly reflects the publication’s vision.
Through various features over the years, Durrah has shone the spotlight on royalty and heads of state and government, including His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of Bahrain; His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, The Prime Minister; His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa; Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister; and Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of His Majesty King Hamad and President of the Supreme Council for Women.
Durrah has also interviewed some of the most iconic international artists, gaining exclusive insight into their creative processes, sources of inspiration, and the stories behind their success. Some of our most noteworthy interviewees include M.F. Husain, one of the most celebrated and recognised Indian artists of the 20th century; trailblazing American glass sculptor, Dale Chihuly; ‘The Most Successful Artist in Turkey’, Ismail Acar; and Tunisian visual artist, Nja Almahdaoui.

People of Influence
Standing as a testament to Durrah’s high calibre and global reach are the numerous prominent public figures we’ve featured in our interviews section. These include Ferrari’s former CEO and Chairman, Luca di Montezemolo; President of Patek Philippe, Thierry Stern; and KFH CEO, Abdul Hakim Alkhayyat.
Durrah’s dining section only highlights the crème de la crème of the culinary industry and has featured many of the most respected and distinguished chefs and restaurateurs in the world. Among our most reputed interviewees was Alain Ducasse, who is one of only two chefs to hold 21 Michelin stars throughout his career. We have also proudly interviewed celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck, whose gourmet restaurants are widely regarded as the benchmark for fine dining. Our special feature celebrating the life and accomplishments of iconic French chef Paul Bocuse, dubbed ‘the Pope of Gastronomy’, was another highlight.
Many of the world’s leading architects have graced our pages, including Dame Zaha Hadid, an icon of the field and the first woman to receive the Pritzker Architecture Prize. Some of her most prominent projects include Abu Dhabi Performing Arts Centre, and Dubai Opera House. Another of our proudest interviews was with Jean Nouvel, who is internationally acclaimed for his boldly experimental designs, which include the Quai Branly Museum in Paris, Copenhagen’s Concert Hall, and the Abu Dhabi Louvre.
Only the most elegant and exclusive brands are featured in Durrah’s Jewellery pages. Over the years, we have been fortunate enough to speak with eminent designers and top company executives about their dazzling collections. Some of our most prestigious interviewees include the Chairman of Bahrain’s renowned Al Zain jewellery house, Nabeel Al Zain, and famed Turkish jeweller Sevan Bıçakçı, whose clients include megastars such as Catherine Zeta-Jones, Elizabeth Hurley, Celine Dion, Liv Tyler, and Mariah Carey.
